Eco Friendly Cars

ecofriendlycarAll of us want to buy a car that won’t guzzle expensive oil and burn a hole into our pockets and moreover will not emit hazardous CO2 into the atmosphere.

The high demand for hybrid automobiles  in the recent past shows that we all want a car that is a relief on the pocket and runs efficiently at 50 miles a gallon. Hybrids store the energy released from the braking of the car in batteries which is later used to run the car instead of gas, thus making them more economical and efficient.

Apart from giving a mind baffling mileage these cars are also designed like other production street vehicles now, much unlike the alien designs of the past.

However there are doubts about the life of the battery of the hybrid car which some sources claim do not last long.

There is an ample choice of vehicles available today. Until recently, car companies only manufactured sedans as hybrid vehicles. However, seeing the growing popularity of hybrids, manufacturers  have started to produce even hybrid SUVs. These higher powered trucks and SUVs do gain on the mileage but not as much as the sedans do.

Biodiesel is a blend of traditional diesel as well as vegetable oil. Every existing diesel engine is capable of using biodiesel. So you can switch back and forth between biodiesel and regular diesel if you have to. But when using biodiesel you may have to switch your oil filter more often. Some people though, may need to modify their diesel engines to run a fuel called straight vegetable oil.

Washing vehicles in the outdoors is extremely hazardous to the environment. This is unlike drainage water from the kitchens or baths which go into the drainage system and get treated before being released back into the environment. The wastewater from washing cars gets discharged into the open environment from where it ultimately ends up in streams and creeks and causes immense damage to the aquatic ecosystem. This is because the water from washing cars contains several contaminants that include gasoline, oil, waste fumes from the exhaust and poisonous organic compounds apart from the acids and Stearic reagents from the detergent used.

One must hence be cautious in the selection of the detergent used. If the car must be washed at home, you should make sure that the detergent used is safe and biodegradable. Several such options, specifically synthesised for use as automobile detergent are available. Another option would be to make your very own detergent through several recipes available on the internet. One must only make sure that these ingredients are free of chlorine and phosphate. Such mixes synthesized at home are environmentally safe and can be used to wash exterior car surfaces.

Another important point is that even when the detergent used is environmentally safe, you should always avoid cleaning the car in the open. The reason for this is that even though the detergent used is bio degradable, the waste water still contains contaminants from the car body. In such a case, cleaning the car in the lawn is a good option as the soil from the lawn neutralises the contaminants from the runoff water and prevents and damage to the environment
