Self defense or self protection is the ability of animals to defend themselves when other animals attack. It is all in our blood and it is wired in our DNA. For humans, we learn self defense for that same purpose but for animals, they rely on pure instinct. Protection is not an issue with animals because they can really do it on their own but the only thing that animals could not protect themselves from are the fleas on their backs. It is kind of ironic that the thing that can break an animal is a small microscopic parasite. Fleas are very annoying little creatures.
They infest all types of animals even humans. If you have a pet at home then you definitely know what I am talking about. These pests are very hard to eliminate because they just keep on replicating. I have a dog at home and I always have a problem with the way his fleas multiply. Every now and then I have to find those fleas and kill them before they spread. With the sixteen years that I have been around with animals, I learned that fleas may come to animals and multiply greatly at a certain point in their lives. It is more or less the same as acne when you have it during puberty.
Animals also have their puberty and their acne is in the form of fleas. I may not be an expert but the experience I have with my dog has taught me a lot. The first thing to know about flea treatments in all animals is that there is no product out there that can remove all the fleas in your animal. The frontline flea treatment would have to be regular baths. People may not know this but fleas die on soapy water. Buying a medicated shampoo may not be necessary because ordinary pet shampoo will do just fine. Although several products out there that have pesticide on it may potentiate the action of the soap. You must remember that flea eradication does not only occur in baths. Bathing your pet every day might cause their skin to dry up, their hair to loose their shine, and their hair to sometimes fall off. In order to avoid daily bathing, the usual flea picking approach will do.
This is a very underrated technique but this is still considered as the frontline of flea treatment. You should use a fine tooth comb to search for the fleas and then put them on water to die. The regular habit of doing this would also be very good since it eliminates the number of fleas on the your pet's body and it also does not cause any skin or hair damage. If these things do not work for your pet, then you should definitely visit your veterinarian and have your pet checked. Your vet will advise you to medicate your pet and give it some vitamins for its skin. There is this drug that can be injected that runs in the blood of pets which are non toxic to them but very toxic to fleas. They claim that it will shed off fleas in a few days time. This product may still be in its experimental stage so you better ask your vet about this and all the other options you may have.
