Less Credit Card Usage While Adopting A Frugal Lifestyle

In American, many people choose to use credit cards for a lot of their payments or purchases. Although it is advantageous for some transactions, it also causes the start of their financial problems. Initially, Americans were able to get credit cards by undergoing a serious credit check, but over the last couple of decades issuing credit has become extremely lax and now many people are finding themselves in credit hot water. Because of the credit card hype, it makes spending money for something unnecessary a lot easier for people.

Credit cards are really useful because it makes transactions easier and faster without having the hassle having to bring your own money when buying. It’s also very handy since you can use it almost anywhere now. The only downside of using credit card is you would be prone to overspending. However, you can still have a frugal lifestyle without having to give up your credit cards. All you need to do is to have a little bit of discipline and a keen understanding of what you really need.

If you are the kind of person who would like to save a lot then you should adopt a frugal lifestyle. I’m not saying you should give up your credit cards, just being aware and self disciplined will do. Here are some situations where you can apply frugal living VS using credit cards:

  • Instead of using credit in purchasing your weekly grocery items, you can set aside a weekly budget for that in cash instead of using your credit card. Also, make sure to have the necessary goods listed on a piece of paper rather than just putting any anything in your cart or basket you think you need when buying in a grocery store.
  • Online buying is great since you can purchase good deals. However, you should think and weigh it down if you really need those products you see in online stores. Perhaps, you can also purchase those products on local stores in your area where you can get a good bargain. This would avoid you of using your credit card, paying for shipping fees and extra credit card fees.
  • Instead of maxing out your credit card during mall sales, you can shop with the limited amount of money that you’ve already set aside. Of course, if shopping is making you happy, it is not a problem for you can still use your credit card. You just have to make sure that you will be able to pay for it.
