Anthony Sawyer “Tony” Horton Jr., was born on July 2, 1958 in Westerly, Rhode Island, he was raised in Trumbull, Connecticut, and studied at the University of Rhode Island. Tony Horton dreamed of becoming a famous actor one day, and to fulfill his dreams, he went to Los Angeles to try his luck. He became a stand-up comedian for sometime before pursuing his fitness career.

He began workout out in Venice, California over at World Gym together with professional body builders, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno, who played the role of the Hulk in the movies. But Tony Horton’s aim was not to become the typical body builder who exhibits non-flexibility and looks all bulky and stocky. As such, he focused more on developing his flexibility, balance, and speed and also targeted muscle development. Later on, he met Mark Sisson, who was a former Ironman athlete, who introduced him to interval training.
